The Town of China is seeking applications from experienced and ambitious individuals for a full-time position of Plow Truck Driver/Road Maintenance Worker. An employee in this position will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, summer and winter road maintenance and a snowplow route. Applicant is responsible for daily maintenance on their plow truck, which includes washing, greasing and performing pre and post trip inspections. Mechanical aptitude is a plus. The Public Works Department hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm. Overtime is mandatory during winter months.
The duties of the Public Works Department include the maintenance of town roads, lawn mowing, snow plowing, shoveling, raking, lifting, building maintenance and the operation of trucks, loaders, skid steer, rollers, chainsaws, chipper, plate compactors, trimmers, and any other mechanical equipment, as needed. Public Works employees assist the Transfer Station when needed and complete the required training for a Transfer Station Attendant.
Qualified candidates must provide quality service, collaborate well with coworkers, must be safety conscious and participate in all safety programs, as well as any technical or safety training. Applicant must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various types of weather conditions and must be able to perform work that involves extended periods of standing, walking, bending pulling, and lifting heavy objects up to 80 lbs. This person must be capable of working long hours as overtime is necessary throughout winter maintenance and on other occasions.
Candidates must possess a valid State of Maine CDL B license with a clean driving record.
